Seeking to explain thermodynamics based on moving and interacting atoms

The Machinery Underneath – update on my 2nd thermodynamics book

As shared here and here, I’ve begun writing my 2nd thermodynamics book, The Machinery Underneath, in which I will connect the micro-world of moving and interacting atoms to the macro-world of thermodynamic phenomena and the classical equations used to describe them. I will publish each chapter as I complete it. At 66 years of age (and counting), I don’t want to wait another 20 years until I’m done with the book and ready to publish.

In the spirit of sharing what I’m up to as I move along, here are my first four chapters (click here). I welcome feedback and will gladly make appropriate corrections and modifications (a critical benefit of on-line publishing!).

Thank you very much for your support.

About Me

Hi! I’m Bob Hanlon. After earning my Sc.D. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and enjoying a long career in both industry and academia, I’ve returned to school, my own self-guided school, seeking to better understand the world of thermodynamics. Please join me on my journey.
